The objective of this Master Thesis is to design a new residential quarter in an urban situation, while pursuing the principles for a zero-energy development, as well as implementing the concept of a walkable city in a segmental scale.
The project takes on creating a car-free quarter of predominantly residential character, offering habitation for a wide range of target groups, as well as numerous job opportunities, a school, and a variety of amenities for the residents.
A thorough analyses of the surroundings was carried out, creating a base for the urban design. Further on, a representative type building was selected from the urban design, to be further defined in accordance with the rules for a synthesis between a passive house construction and solar house concept, and to be subjected to detailed energy calculations using the PHPP (The Passive House Planning Package) tool.
The calculations have resulted in a set of optimizing measures, searching for a middle ground between energetic efficiency, architectonic expression and residents‘ comfort.
